Insanity
Merely a word
Un-imaginative
people use
To convince themselves
That they understand
the world
Armand G Eddon
Children don't tell their parents
everything, nor parents their children, nor siblings each other... So much we will never know! The difference being that children, even
grown up, are far more naïve than their parents. So much that my
younger siblings never knew! And so much that my father, who was in Korea
when I – that is, when we were born – never knew. And so
it was with Armand, my psychotic but brilliant twin brother, whom I
would never meet except through letters, yet who would ultimately teach me so much...
Yes, we were twins – identical even, though
separated at birth. My mother chose me while her sister took in
Armand, named after their father, who was in fact my biological
father as well - a shame that the man I always called father never
knew. Nor my siblings, nor even I,
until my father passed in 2005. Then, finally, I met my prolific twin, Armand.
Or if not him, at least his words. So
many words... So many pages! Volumes characterized by
abstruse, arcane sesquipedalian tangles enmeshed in matrices far too
long to be called paragraphs. A deluge of inscrutable
madness...
And yet there was something... Lunatic, yet radiant... Shimmers of alien moons... Some kind of
spiritual synesthesia signifying vast, presently unfathomable... yet
perhaps – just perhaps, some kind of ultimate knowing... ?
No. Surely this was insane!

Imagine my shock! A PhD
statistician, steeped in analysis and prediction... Rational,
deliberate, cautious, calculating, weighing probabilities, quantifying
standard deviations, computing likelihoods of type one and type two
errors...
And now? A biological father I never
knew, and a psychotic identical twin spouting reams of
incomprehensible madness in a world that cannot be!
And yet it was...

And so it is. Finally I understand,
though I cannot possibly communicate my enlightenment - that is,
Armand's enlightenment – to any other earthly soul. Enlightenment
that, for me, could only have come per our reunion. Our
completion.
Armand has since passed, and so have "I". We are now merged as one.
I don't expect anyone to
understand, especially not my siblings or children.
But you? Maybe....
