A
single and often lonely Protagonist has
saved practically all her contacts’ phone numbers in an electronic directory
for years – close friends, casual friends, one-time friends, friends of
friends, old blind dates, co-workers, in-laws’ children etc, all good and bad; maybe
a thousand or so numbers on the phone – a seemingly harmless, though sometimes frustrating
and time-consuming compulsion.
Then one
day a misdialed call creates a joyful, serendipitous, 30 minute reunion, and
the lonely Protagonist has an idea!
Why not close her eyes once a week, dial a number at random, and see what
happens?
Many
calls reach current contacts and are quickly put aside, though some turn
on “As long as we are here together, how about..." or "Would you like to..."
Other calls reach long-ago but ultimately remembered contacts, sparking various
opportunities and consequences (some better than others), while yet others reach entirely unknown
persons who acquired the original but abandoned number some time ago, again with various consequences.
As the plot thickens, serendipity and its left-handed, less pleasant channels crisscross
and wend their way to... ???Introspection triggered by the calls, and its interaction with current existential dilemmas, generating change???
First paragraph? Mood? Time warps?
YOU write it!
